Entry into this contest is deemed acceptance of these Terms and Conditions. Changes in the terms and conditions will be notified by email before deadline of The PGB Photo Award.

The competition is open to all professional and gifted amateur photographers worldwide. Employees of The PGB Photo Award and their families are ineligible for cash prizes.

Entries must be made online using the official contest site on this website.

Photographers must own all copyright in any image entered and all entries must be the photographer’s original work. The pictures can only be submitted into the specified categories.

The contest is open from December 15, 2009 until January 31, 2010, at 23:59 Central European Time. Entries should be uploaded to the website as instructed on or before the closing date. Simply log onto the website and follow the online instructions to upload images. Only electronic entries will be accepted.

Participating pictures must have been taken during the year 2009.

They do not need to have been published. Pictures taken outside the year 2009 are automatically disqualified. Entry fees will not be refunded.

For each submitted picture there is an entry fee of US$10


The prize pool is US$21,000 in cash.

US$10,000 is awarded to the winner in the category Picture of the Year.

There is a cash prize of US$1,000 for each 1:st prize winner in the other categories. The PGB Photo Award bronze statue is presented to all 1:st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners in every category. Any applicable taxes will be paid by the photographer.


Online submissions must be RGB or Grayscale jpegs at a maximum file size of 4MB each. Entrants may set their own DPI and image size but should bear in mind that the judges will view all images on a computer screen. If your image is chosen as one of the general winners you may have to upload a high resolution 300dpi file.

Digital manipulation, manufactured photo illustrations, double exposures, added masks, borders, backgrounds or other artistic effects are not allowed. No signature, stamp, or any other identifying mark is allowed anywhere on the entries. All participants should keep a high resolution file of their submitted file.

The jury is allowed to ask for a high resolution file during their meetings.

This is an online competition for electronic images only – no prints will be accepted nor will submissions on disk.


There is a US$10 fee for each submitted picture and the fee is payable online. If you submit the same picture to several categories, for example to a single category and to a picture story category, there is still a fee of US$10 per submission.


The names of the jury members will be presented at a later date, but before the deadline of The PGB Photo Award. The decision of the jury is final and no negotiation will be entered into with respect to any such decision.

The jury is selected by The PGB Photo Award. There is a pre-jury and a final jury. The pre-jury will narrow down the pictures to a suitable number. The final jury will choose the winning pictures. The final jury has the right to look at pictures that the pre-jury rejected.

The jury is allowed to move pictures between categories if they deem it necessary. They may also award single pictures from picture stories.

As a contestant you are not allowed to contact any of the jury members to discuss the contest. Please refrain from any direct contact with the jury. Contact The PGB Photo Award with your questions and we will help you. Any contact with any jury member may result in disqualification.


Awarded photographers will be presented around the end of February on The PGB Photo Award website. The prize ceremony will be held in May/June in Stockholm, Sweden.

There are three awards in each category: 1:st , 2nd and 3rd prize. Nominated photographers will receive one of these prizes. In the categories Photographer of the Year and Picture of the Year, however, there is only 1:st prize, i.e., no 2nd nor 3rd prize.


Entrants understand that any image submitted to the contest may be used by The PGB Photo Award, and its partners, for promotional purposes of the event only, such as in exhibitions, in a book, in any print and digital media directly related to The PGB Photo Award contest. Use may include publication in The PGB Photo Award partner publication where the subject is regarding the award.

Copyright of all images submitted to the competition will remain with the photographer. Any photograph used by The PGB Photo Award or its partners shall carry the photographers credit line.

You hereby grant The PGB Photo Award a non-exclusive, irrevocable licence in each entry throughout the world for 5 years from the date of announcement of the winners in all media connected with The PGB Photo Award contest. If The PGB Photo Award wish to use any image after the expiration of the 5 year license, The PGB Photo Award will ask for the photographer’s permission and the image will only be used if the photographer gives their permission for such.

The award winning pictures will be made available to the press that writes about the contest and its awarded photographers. The pictures will be provided free of charge to the press for a limited time. The press are not allowed to print any pictures without permission from The PGB Photo Award.

The PGB Photo Award reserves the right, with sole discretion, to disqualify and remove any entry that does not comply with the following requirements, even after the entry is submitted. You warrant and represent, in respect of each entry submitted by you, as follows:

• You are the sole owner and author of each entry.

• You have the right to make your entry available to the Competition.

• Each entry does not infringe upon the copyrights, trademarks, contract rights, or any other intellectual property rights of any third person or entity, or violate any person’s rights of privacy or publicity.

Each submitted image, in its entirety, must be a single work of original material taken by the entrant. By entering the competition the entrant represents, acknowledges and warrants that the submitted image is an original work created solely by the entrant, that the image does not infringe on the copyrights, trademarks, moral rights, rights of privacy/publicity or intellectual property rights of any person or entity, and that no other party has any right, title, claim or interest in the image.


Copyright in all images submitted to the competition will remain with the photographer. The PGB Photo Award will use the award winning pictures in the Photo Award Book, The PGB Photo Award Exhibition on The PGB Photo Award website and in promotion material connected to The PGB Photo Award. Some of the partners will use the pictures in their publications. The press will be given the award winning pictures to publish in articles connected with the award.


It is the responsibility of the photographer to ensure that all necessary model releases have been obtained from any clearly identifiable person appearing in any image together with any other relevant consents required and that the use of the image in this competition does not breach any copyright or rights of any other person or entity. The PGB Photo Award will not be liable for any loss, damage or personal injury whatsoever suffered or sustained by any person or entity that results from or arises out of this contest. The entrant indemnifies The PGB Photo Award against any loss, damages, costs or claims arising out of a breach of the Terms and Conditions by the entrant.


Any entry that does not comply with these Terms and Conditions may be disqualified at the sole discretion of The International Photographers Award, Inc. The PGB Photo Award reserves the right to require repayment of any prizes from any person whose entry has been disqualified. The PGB Photo Award reserves the right to cancel, suspend or postpone the competition at any time and for any reason. The PGB Photo Award will not be liable to any person for any loss, cost or claim arising directly or indirectly from such cancellation, suspension or postponement. All entry fees will be refunded if the competition is cancelled.


Swedish law will govern this competition and the entrants submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the Swedish courts.
